Krk

Kruščica Bay, Cres Island

Nestled on the eastern coast of Cres Island, Kruščica Bay offers a secluded anchorage with a sandy seabed ideal for anchoring. The bay is protected from the mild Bura (NE) wind but in case of strong Bura there can be wavey in the bay. It’s exposed to the Jugo (SE), so caution is advised when southerly winds are forecasted. A unique feature is a swing hanging from a tree near the shoreline, adding a charming touch to this tranquil spot surrounded by rugged cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation.

Golden Beach, Krk Island

Situated on the southwestern coast of Krk Island near Stara Baška, Golden Beach is renowned for the towering golden-hued cliffs that lend the beach its name. Direct anchoring at the beach is limited and suitable mainly for small boats due to the challenging seabed and limited space. Sailors are advised to anchor in one of the nearby bays and approach the beach by dinghy. Be prepared for crowds during the high season, as its unique landscape attracts many visitors. The crystal-clear waters and striking golden backdrop make it a picturesque spot for swimming and snorkeling.

The marina provides a full range of services, including repair facilities, and amenities like restaurants and shops. Adjacent to the marina is the charming Punat village, known for its narrow streets, traditional Mediterranean architecture, and local eateries. Valun, Cres Island

Situated on the western coast of Cres Island, Valun is a picturesque fishing village that offers a delightful stop for sailors. Anchoring opportunities are limited; only a few spots are suitable, while the rest of the bay is too deep for charter boats with standard 40 meters of chain. A small marina with a few berths is available, mainly accommodating smaller vessels. Valun is well-protected from the Jugo (SE) wind but is exposed to the Tramontana (N) wind. In cases of a strong Bura (NE), winds can funnel over the island and affect the bay, so caution is advised when a strong Bura is forecasted. Ashore, sailors can wander through quaint streets, enjoy local seafood at traditional restaurants, and soak in the village’s serene atmosphere.

Vela Luka Bay, Krk Island

Situated on the southeastern shore of Krk Island, Vela Luka Bay is a remarkable anchorage known for its deep, elongated inlet framed by towering cliffs on both sides, offering a unique and dramatic landscape. The bay has suitable anchoring depths with a sandy seabed, providing secure holding for vessels. It offers excellent protection from the Bura (NE) wind, though during exceptionally strong Bura conditions, some swell may be felt within the bay. Protection from the Jugo (SE) wind is less effective, so sailors should remain vigilant when southerly winds are forecasted. On the beach there are umbrellas and a small bar, ideal for refreshment on hot summer days.

Ćifnata Bay, Rab Island

Nestled on the south-west coast of Rab Island and framed by lush pine trees, Ćifnata Bay offers sailors a peaceful anchorage amid unspoiled natural beauty. The air is filled with the aromatic scent of pine, and the gentle sound of crickets adds to the serene atmosphere. The bay’s crystal-clear turquoise waters make it an inviting spot for swimming and relaxation. Anchoring conditions are favorable, with a sandy seabed providing good holding at depths suitable for most vessels. While Čifnata Bay benefits from the island’s terrain for protection against the Tramontana (N), Maestral(NW) and Bura (NE) winds, it’s important to note that if the Bura exceeds 30 knots, it can reach the bay due to the low elevation of Rab Island in this area. The bay is more exposed to the Jugo (SE) wind, so sailors should exercise caution when southerly winds are anticipated.

Adjacent to the marina is a historic castle that houses a luxury hotel and a renowned restaurant, offering a blend of modern comfort and historical ambiance. The village itself is delightful for a leisurely walk, featuring traditional architecture and scenic views. Located on the eastern coast of Vis Island, Vela Smokova Bay is a natural anchorage celebrated for its sandy beach – ideal for playing “picigin,” a beloved Croatian summer game enjoyed in shallow waters. Anchoring here can be challenging due to the steep seabed; it’s essential to secure stern lines to the rocks ashore when anchoring. The bay is known for shifty winds that can originate from the shore side, a result of the steep terrain in this area of the island. Sailors should be prepared for sudden changes in wind direction. Vela Smokova Bay offers a tranquil and scenic spot for swimming and relaxation, making it a favorite among those seeking the untouched beauty of Vis Island.

The bay offers excellent protection from the Bura (NE) and Maestral (NW) winds, making it a safe anchorage in most conditions. Located on the southwest coast of Levrnaka Island within Kornati National Park, Lojena Bay boasts the archipelago’s only natural sandy beach. Its turquoise waters and rich marine life make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
Anchoring is possible on a sandy seabed but space is limited; arriving between 8–10 a.m. when overnight boats depart increases your chances of securing a spot. Approach cautiously due to submerged rocks.

A seasonal restaurant is a 10-minute walk away on the opposite side of the island.
